There are few Djz and producers in the modern techno world who can truly claim to have pioneered a style and sound, and call it their own. Such statements are often declared, but rarely justified. In the case of Ben Long and Jamie Bissmire, the names behind the revered Space DJz this claim would be unarguable.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Currently living in Madrid, Spain. He grew up listening to legendary bands like Depeche Mode, New Order, Pink Floyd, Europe among others. At the age of 13 he attended to bass classes which directed him through different styles like heavy, pop, rock, hip hop, alternative, punk etc. After some time he was able to control guitar, organ and many other instruments, he's still experimenting with friends and new people he met. In the mid 90's he's heavily influenced by House style, he starts going to Clubland, (Pacha Buenos Aires) where Hernan Cattaneo used to play, who is still Juan Hougham's national influence.Juan had the opportunity to be behind the scenes, in Cattaneo's sets and many others like Nick Warren, Jimmy Van M Darren Emerson, Danny Tenaglia, John Digweed, Sasha, Satoshi Tomie, Sven Vath , Jon Carter who was in the vanguard of Buenos Aires' music by that time. Under this influence he starts working in the mix of different instruments, electric drums and software developing compositions as a soloist in his home studio. Later on he joined a band using this compositions as a base of their live performances, mixing electric drums, guitars and synthesizers it sounded like a mixture between Bauhaus, Depeche Mode, New Order, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, advanced experimental. Juan is more interested in the electro part of the project and he decides to move on and produce house music mixing them with well known tracks including all his influences and experiences as a musician. Up to now, Juan Hougham has sold over 40 productions which were played at many clubs and private parties as performances for diferents records labels. Right after that, he performed his first live presentation at the club El Infierno playing only his tracks which were very well accepted by the public, motivating him to continue with his DJ/Producer career, therefore he aquires vinyl music and combines his productions with new sounds. His styles are House, Progressive House ,Tech House , performing in underground clubs like El Dorado playing with known DJs like Felipe Fernandez and Ricky Ryan among others. Juan also performed in private parties with importan DJs like Andy Dabula, Miss Akane, Juan Pryor. He decides to go on tour to Europe (Spain) arriving at Ibiza where he is invited by Diego Cid to play in the Grial's terrace with DJ Caro and Cid. After gaining experience and some influence of the island, he moves to Barcelona searching for new sounds, right there is when his new alias was born, John Gham. He moves to Madrid's heart as part of a Vinyl Club Vinyl season being their resident with DJ Shammu, also performing for private parties and afters too. After a tour through Malaga, he performs in the following clubs: Mokelie, Rubi, Colonial Cafe, B4 and private parties. He sets up a studio in Madrid to continue with his production. In another tour to Ibiza he is invited to play with Rubyks Cube(space ibiza) in the Silicon Fiesta's pre party at Privilege. He will perform at private parties and afters also. This time, his musical influence drove him to a new style: minimal house, minimal techno , Tech House (John Gham) but with lots of groove. On the other hand and as a result of assisting to parties performed by Cocoon, DC10 and Monza, the argentine DJ/Producer gets the influence for his new parallel project. His last performances took place at Folies Pigalle (Paris), Cafe 1001 (London), Virtual (Madrid) Living (Franfurt), he was resident DJ at Jet-Lab Partys in Deep (no doubt one of the best night clubs in Madrid), he was DJ resident at one of the most mythical and underground club of Madrid "Taboo" -last shows _ U60311 (Hessen /Frankfurt ) Living xxl (Hessen /Frankfurt) With the alias Juan Hougham his style is House,Progressive House, With his other alias, "John Gham" his style is "Tech House", Minimal ,Techno Nowadays Juan Hougham signed with Flat Belly Recordings, the label of the famous DJ Ricky Stone. the Single "Sun Of Angel" inc (Montero Remix) that was top 100 Beatport (Progressive House ) The other alias John Gham signed with "Peon Music" from Frankfurt his first reference in Vinyl "Whiplash Ep " 12" and for "Kung Fu Dub"Label from the Famous Dj Jeff Bennett, The Ep "Introducing by John Gham. Sometimes when I ask people what kind of music do you like they respond with I listen to everything. Its really hard and a lot of work to even try that. You can find good tunes and bad in every single gengre there is.I try to be open minded about all of them but ofcorse some are more favorite then others. My favorite tune at the moment is Lusine – two dots (Nic Fanciully remix).Nic just released this remix and its both sweet and tight at the same time, really smooth vocal.Christian Smith released a remix of an old classic,Carl Craig – At Les (Christian Smith Tronic Treatment remix) and its a floorfiller indeed,it will make those oldschool people cry on the floor. Those who have no idea about who Carl Craig is well, he is a pioneer in house music.Marsbeing,a producer from Ukranien released an album called Save my world and its titled in beatport as a must have. The whole album is a mixture of sweet no cheesy progressive, chill out and breaks. My favorite tune from it is Tigress.Paul Kalkbrenner and Laidback Luke released the remixes of Moby – Wait for me.Both very good though I like the Kalkbrenner remix better, he just has a surtain sound that totally is just his.Kaiserdisco are a duo fromGermany and they released a brilliant minimal tech house songKaiserdisco – Que Ritmo (Strict Border remix).People that dont listen to techno think that this music is only the hardest stuff out there, well I proove them wrong by pointing out Melodic Techno. My favorite tune from that section is Douglas Greed – Oh my.Since I started talking about Techno I have to tell you about my favorites there.Len Faki made anew remixOrlando Villegas & MattNordstrom – Spanglish (Len Faki Remix), brilliant tune but my favorite is without doubt Oliver Garcia– The Music (Phunk Investigation remix).Crasy tune.Echowelt released a wicket tune as well called Groove me baby. For those really hard techno heads then Dustin Zahn just released a new remixM.Gervais – From the beguinning(Dustin Zahn remix).Saints & Sinners are a duo that have been making music together since around 1999.They made a very popular remix then of the classic Sweet harmony with Liqued Love.Today they just made my most favorite techno song this week.I cant wait to mix it, Saints & sinners-echo of the night (mix2).Earlyer I talked about how difficult it is to try to listen to everyting, well it helps a lot if you know wich labels you like. One of mine are Döppelganger records and from them this week I found a beutiful perl released in the deep house section,Andizzzi – You Wanna Feel. Many good things are happening in breaks now,Ricardo Jefferson – Aphrodite , Brilliant guitar strings in it.Kit – Horseshoe crap is exculy an indy rock band but this song has a different style.Alex Hentze is doing good things and my favorite of his new albut is Peanut butter and Carrots, very nice and easy a bit progressive breaks. The sweetest song from breaks section is Cinnamon Chasers-Neon Love.Usually I dong like Vocals but under deep house I found really nice one,Daniel Paul –Coming back for more (Wartin Borgman remix).Like I said I am not really a fan of vocals and specially if its a mans vocal but if it works it does.Well thats it for this week, feel free to send me your songs or links, Im always looking for something new.
